Ryan Saylor
Ryan Saylor is the founder and managing editor of Midnight Politics as well as a freelance writer and political analyst.
He became a contributor to Arkansas Tonight (link) in February 2009. At Arkansas Tonight, Ryan reports and analyzes politics in the state of Arkansas as well as reporting and commenting on national hot button political issues that are important to Arkansans.
In addition to his work at Arkansas Tonight, Ryan has done other work in the Oklahoma City area. He was in Oklahoma City and its suburbs when a destructive tornado ripped through the area in the overnight hours of March 30 and into March 31, 2008. His photography of the destruction appeared on CNN, allowing the world to see the damage left behind after the storm had passed (on-air images linked HERE and HERE; transcript of broadcast HERE).
Besides photography, Ryan also worked as a staff writer during the summer of 2009 for The Vista, a small university-owned newspaper in Edmond, Oklahoma. His reports for the paper mainly dealt with politics and foreign policy, although he did cover the occasional automobile accident.
Previous to his work at Arkansas Tonight and his additional work in central Oklahoma, Ryan worked as a staff writer and photographer at The Scroll, an annual publication at the University of Central Arkansas, from August 2003 to December 2004.
It was during his time at UCA that Ryan volunteered at the national campaign headquarters of retired Gen. Wesley Clark as he sought the 2004 Democratic nomination for President. While the campaign didn’t last long, it did provide Ryan a crash-course in Presidential and Democratic politics.
After attending UCA, Ryan transferred to the University of Arkansas before landing at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he was a Mass Communications – Public Relations major. He currently lives in the Oklahoma City area.
